Renault renews its partnership with Dame Ellen MacArthur

Just last spring Dame Ellen MacArthur encouraged the teams working on continued innovation in all sectors of the Renault ZE range by her presence at the ‘Atelier Renault’ on the Champs Elysées.

On September 2nd, Renault took the partnership it started with the ‘Dame’ in April 2008 a step further by not only renewing its engagement for another 3 years, but by becoming one of the four founding partners in the Ellen MacArthur Foundation.

The Foundation, launched September 2nd 2010, aims to ‘inspire the public to rethink, conceive and ultimately build a sustainable future’.  Renault is well positioned to contribute its expertise, case studies and company experts, to support the Foundation aims to change thinking and general practice.

Ellen MacArthur: Renault ZE’s newest ambassador! – Renault ZE blog

macarthur_renaultWhen world-renown sailor Ellen MacArthur is not on her boat… She might very well be close to a Renault ZE electric car! One of Renault’s longtime partners for sustainable development, Ellen McArthur visited the Renault store on the Champs-Elysées on the 10th of July. She met with a dozen members of the Renault ZE team.

Ellen MacArthur, who drives an old generation Renault electric car, told the team how much the new kind of electric vehicles they work on mean to her: “Supporting a range of cars which have made continuous improvements in all areas from the manufacturing process, inclusion of recycled materials and obviously lower carbon emissions but which are also economical makes sense to me. I am passionate about trying to encourage my team and the wider public to lead more sustainable lives which means using as few natural resources as we can to help safeguard the future of our planet.”

We couldn’t agree more! So for those of you who think the same way, remember it is now just a matter of months before we can enjoy the Renault ZE electric revolution!

[Video] Cities are getting ready for Renault ZE’s electric cars! – Renault ZE Blog

We hope you are ready for Renault ZE’s electric cars, because cities all over Europe certainly are! Partnerships, dedicated infrastructures, car subsidy programs… Thomas Orsini, Director of Business Development for Renault Electric Cars, tells us about all the work which will make electric cars accessible when they roll out next year.

Renault also invited bloggers from different European countries to visit Renault’s factory in Maubeuge, France. They give you their insights on the factory’s car production line and its environmental strategy, in this eighth edition of the “Zero Emission Magazine”!

[Video] Electric vehicles: Renault Z.E. is all ears! – Renault ZE Blog

It is no secret that ever since the announcement of the launch of Renault Z.E., electric cars have been the center of attention. We took our camera and went on a trip to go meet you and discover what you really think about electric vehicles. Discover the answers we received in the first part of this video!

Then, we sat down again with Uwe Hochgeschurtz, Director of Corporate Sales at Renault. He talks about the advantages of electric vehicles, in terms of brand image as well as costs. Companies, just like private consumers, have understood as they are already investing in electric vehicles.

1.7 million electric vehicles by 2020 targeted by the uk committee on climate change*! – Renault ZE Blog

As the Copenhagen Conference on the Climate draws near, the Committee on Climate Change (CCC*) has attacked the British government for its track record. The low percentage (1%) of reduction in CO2 emissions over the whole of the British Isles for 2008-2009 does not bode well for reaching the targets to which the UK is already committed.
What’s more, even that meagre one percent is partly a by-product of lower fuel consumption during the recession.

In its latest report, the CCC recommends a series of large-scale measures that will make lasting changes to energy consumption habits and behaviour in the UK.

Among other things, the report takes a close look at transport issues, showing that the UK could reduce car emissions by 95 gCO2/km by 2020 (from the current 158 gCO2/km) by heavily promoting the use of rechargeable electric and hybrid vehicles.
To achieve this, the country must become electric car-ready in terms of infrastructure and consumer access. So the CCC has set a target to build a charging infrastructure for up to 240,000 electric cars by 2015, and up to 1.7 million by 2020. To encourage drivers to exchange their old cars for new electric ones, they are asking the government to offer a special purchasing premium worth £5,000 starting in 2011.

Naturally these recommendations are underwritten by firm proposals for using cleaner forms of energy for electricity and heating, such as setting up energy production systems based on renewable sources (wind power, biomass, and heat pumps) and developing CO2 capture and storage solutions.

A programme as far reaching as this will certainly be in the spotlight after the Copenhagen Conference. We’ll find out in December…
